Here is where Mahler composed his Symphony No.3 – that symphony that is so much about nature to the point of pantheism. It is a lovely spot. Mahler composed during the summers for many years. He considered himself a part-time composer. His ‘day job’ was conducting. He had many huts like these that he would spend time in, probably rent and compose there. I happen to think that composing surrounded by nature is very good, if not for inspiration then surely for the sense of space and the slowness of time.
